When useful

This is still useful for guitarists repairing a blown tube in their amp.

Then, describe the skill! Tell us how to perform the task. Photos really help!

Also testing them. Tubes could go bad in ways other than the filament failing. In the days of tube TV sets, electronics stores
had "tube testers". Before you called the tv repairman, you could remove all the tubes, carefully noting (by number) which tube
went in which socket, take them all down to the store, and run them through the tester, which had a reference guide and a bunch
of dials to set based on the tube number. It would then tell you whether the tube passed or failed. You then went up to the
counter, bought replacements for the ones that failed, took all the tubes home, put them back in their correct sockets, and
maybe the tv worked again.
