Human beings have always needed to eat. Ideally you have food available to you in some way or other. In the 10,000 years since agriculture appeared over the globe, most societies have transitioned to some form of crop and/or animal husbandry.
If food is unavailable and you are in proximity to an environment full of edible items, the cycle is very simple:
-
Approach plant.
-
Examine plant.
-
If edible, eat, if not, move on.
-
Return to step 1.
This will take most of your time. Hopefully you have shelter already available.
Other variations include harvesting wild forms of plant life that require preparation (washing acorn flour, boiling polk salad), or trapping or hunting wild fauna.
Remember, knowledge of foraging is only applicable to the environment it was learned in.
